In short, here are 5 key items to look for as you select the MGA with whom you'll partner with for the growth of your business. (1) Look for an MGA who has a leadership team seasoned and successful in the business as advisors in their own right. (2) Review if the MGA has had a healthy year-over-year growth rate as an indicator of their stability and momentum in order to support you. (3) Check to see that the MGA has contracts with key insurers in the Canadian market and whether or not they are independent or a particular insurer has acquired some or all the stake in the MGA. (4) Do they have a fulsome training program which evidences their knowledge and connectivity in the industry? (5) And, look beyond the MGA towards what other projects they are involved with and how they give back to the communities they serve, this is a tell-tale sign that they are humans who care, and that will translate to their caring about you and your business.
